My name is Caura Holiday, and I am a 2020 graduating student from Baton Rouge Magnet High School. I am an honor roll student, and I have been in the music program since the second grade. After playing violin for so many years, I felt that it was time to try something new. I was looking for an instrument that would further challenge me and peak my interest. I settled on the largest string instrument in the orchestra: the contrabass. Although I have been playing contrabass for a year, I have accomplished many accolades. For example, making the Multi-District Honors Orchestra, becoming the bass player for the All-State Symphonic Band, sitting fourth chair in my school’s Advanced Orchestra, being section leader and a mentor for the bass section in the Intermediate Orchestra. The greatest accomplishment was taking lessons with one of the best bass players in the nation, Yung Chiao Wei.
Along with these achievements, I have been accepted to thirteen colleges and a total of four scholarships. I have traveled to many places while playing in the orchestra and have learned so much from my experiences. My future aspirations and goals are to attend a university/college where I can thrive and become successful in my career choice. I did not accomplish these things all alone. Without God and my family on my side, I would not know where I would be. I am very grateful for all the blessings that I have received and will continue to receive.
